Fond St Jacques River

In order to convert the basement of the Fond St Jacques multipurpose court complex, situated perilously on the edge of the Fond St Jacques river, into a planned agro processing facility, the Ministry of Agriculture required that the complex be protected from the consistent flooding and undermining of its foundation from the river’s storm flow. In order to achieve this and to ensure the suitability of the structure to function as the agro facility, river training, slope stabilisation and flood protection works were required. Dannion, under the BNTF 7 – Fond St. Jacques Multipurpose Court Structural and Drainage Improvement project, therefore undertook the designs to strengthen the complex’s substructure; improve the drainage system around the building; and reduce the magnitude, frequency and negative consequences of flooding by providing flood protection structures, including a gabion basket river-wall and a stone-filled mattress apron. The design and construction of a slab and ground beams to the basement floor of the multipurpose court complex were also undertaken.

Dannion, in addition to developing the detailed designs, produced the engineer’s estimates and tender documentation, and also conducted the construction supervision and contract administration.
